When I was a teenager my mother gave me a copy of The Red Tent, by Anita Diamant and it made a huge impact on my life. The world of a midwife seemed so mysterious to me.  I wanted to read and learn about what knowledge a midwife possessed.  It was next that I found Ina May Gaskin's, Spiritual Midwifery.  This book was filled with positive birth stories and I just couldn't get enough of these empowered people who believed in their bodies and the birth process! I went on to learn about the amazing and courageous history of the “Granny Midwives” who are the ones to thank for carrying on the tradition of midwifery in the United States.

After becoming a doula and a massage therapist I decided to enroll in Elizabeth Davis's Heart and Hands course, which offers introductory midwifery skills.  I felt so comfortable with the material and loved all the information that was being uncovered.  I absorbed the empowering aspect of birth and trusting your intuition all so well and with great enthusiasm.

The Heart and Hands course feed directly into The National Midwifery Institute, which Elizabeth co-founded.  So, six months after the completion of the beginning and advanced Heart and Hands workshops I enrolled in The National Midwifery Institute's 3 year direct-entry midwifery program.

As of December 2014, I completed my midwifery training through The National Midwifery Institute.  I am in the process of studying for my NARM exam and am currently assisting Bay Area midwives.  I greatly look forward to the day when I get to offer my midwifery services to the San Francisco Bay Area.  Stay tuned!!
